FAYETTE, Mo. ---- The Central Methodist volleyball team earned the season sweep over Evangel University Tuesday night in three straight sets at home.
NOTES
• Darcy Latham earned 18 kills and 10 digs, and Shannon Peters tallied 43 assists with 11 digs, as both players acquired a double-double in the win.
• Central Methodist improved to 18-10 (9-4) on the year, after winning seven of the last eight games. Evangel fell to 11-20 (5-9).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Latham and Peters highlighted the box score for the Eagles with the pair of double-doubles. Latham finished with a .455 hitting percentage, which marks the third consecutive match over .400 for the senior.
• Madison Bond also finished in double digits for Central Methodist with 11 kills. She also added two solo blocks with two block assists.
• Alma Flores added 18 digs, and Stevie Sherard picked up 14.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Evangel jumped out to an early lead after a service ace from Arnold put the Crusaders ahead 7-2.
• A 5-0 run from Central Methodist tied the game at seven, and a kill from Latham moments later put the Eagles ahead 10-9.
• Central Methodist went on to win the first set 25-16, after outscoring Evangel 23-9 following the early Crusader lead.
• Central Methodist jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in set two after a kill from Bond.
• A kill from Schaffer gave the Eagles a seven-point advantage, 22-15, however Evangel responded with a 7-2 run to trail 24-22. An attacking error from Evangel gave the second set to Central Methodist, 25-22.
• Central Methodist again lead early, after a kill from Latham put the Eagles ahead 6-1. Evangel rallied back to tie the game at 11 after a block from Tharps and Petersen with an attack error from the Eagles.
• Central Methodist responded with a 5-0 run that was finished with a kill from Vaden to lead 16-11.
• Evangel refused to surrender, as the Crusaders added a 5-1 run to tie the third set at 20. However, Central Methodist rallied five consecutive points as a kill from Limback provided the 25-20 third set victory for the Eagles in three consecutive sets.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Central Methodist totaled 51 kills in the match, while Evangel finished with 35.
• Central Methodist led in assists 48-35 over Evangel.
• Central Methodist finished with 60 digs, while Evangel totaled 51.
• Evangel tallied eight block assists for four total blocks, as Central Methodist led with three solo blocks and four assisted for five total.

• The Eagles will return to action Friday, October 20, when they continue Heart play, and host Graceland University at 7 p.m.
