OTTAWA, Kan. - The No. 21 Central Methodist University women's volleyball team split in a road triangular event, defeating Avila University in four sets before falling in five to No. 25 Ottawa (Kan.) University.
Mariana Do Nascimento (JR/Salto, Sao Paulo, Brazil) had a huge day, recording 11 kills in the opener before drilling 15 kills while hitting above .350 against the Braves. Marijana Janjusevic also had herself a showing, totaling 16 kills and a .452 hitting percentage against Avila and 11 kills in the second match. Viviane Viana (JR/Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil) continued a strong showing on the offensive and defensive attack, finishing the day with a total of 21 kills, 37 digs, and four aces.
Shannon Peters (SO/Waverly, Mo.) directed the offense with 80 assist, averaging 8.89 per set while Alma Flores (SR/Tijuana, Mexico) secured 43 digs in the two matches.
Other key Eagles included Destiny Vaden (JR/Lee's Summit, Mo.) (16 kills, 10 digs), Grace Stumbaugh (SO/Concordia, Mo.) (15 kills, 6 blocks), Stevie Sherard (SR/Leavenworth, Kan.) (23 assists, 11 digs), Brooke Hogard (JR/Perryville, Mo.) (15 digs), and Anna Wolf (FR/Bolivar, Mo.) (8 kills).
The Eagles, now 26-5 overall, will resume conference play this weekend with two road matches to round out the regular season. Central Methodist will face Benedictine on Friday evenings before heading to Evangel University on Saturday.
