Baldwin City, Kan. - The No. 10 Central Methodist University volleyball team bounced back with a 3-0 sweep over fellow Heart opponent Baker University by scores of 25-16, 25-10, and 25-20 Friday night in Baldwin City, Kansas.
With the victory, the Eagles improve to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Wildcats drop to 0-2 overall and in Heart action. Tonight's win also marks the eighth straight victory over BU, dating back to the 2015 season.
Central Methodist led throughout the entirety of the first two sets, jumping out to 7-1 leads on both occasions. CMU trailed only a handful of times in the third and final set, before closing the match on a 5-0 run.
The Eagles defense was sharp, forcing 22 Wildcat errors compared to only 10 for Central. Krystal Brauner led the defensive charge with 12 digs, while both Shannon Peters and Annabelle Maassen each recorded eight. On the offensive side, Grace Stumbaugh collected eight kills followed by Callie Henson and Jordan Wolfe, who each recorded seven.
Elise Hardesty-Irvin dished out a game-high 18 assists, while Peters nearly came away with a double-double serving up 10 assists to go along with eight kills.
Central Methodist finished the evening with eight team blocks compared to the Wildcats one. The Eagles also recorded a .330 hitting percentage, while Baker finished .073.
The Eagles return home tomorrow afternoon, as they host Benedictine College Saturday, Sept. 19 at 2:00 p.m. inside Puckett Fieldhouse.
