Springfield, Mo. - The No. 13 Central Methodist volleyball program fell in straight sets to Evangel University by scores of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-19 Tuesday night in Springfield, Mo.
It marked the final regular season match for both teams before postseason play begins this weekend. The Eagles finish the regular season with a 26-6 overall mark and a 16-3 record in Heart action, while the Valor improve to 20-11 and 12-7 in the conference.
Tonight's sweep marks Central's first three-set loss since last year's NAIA National Tournament, when they fell to Eastern Oregon in straight sets on April 28 in Sioux City, Iowa.
Callie Henson led the CMU offense with 14 kills, followed by Hannah Marcee with eight and Jordan Wolfe six. Marina Alonso dished out 22 assists while teammate Yenne Schepers added 13.
The trio of Krystal Brauner, Syndi Basler and Annabelle Maassen recorded 12, 11, and 10 digs respectively.
Evangel was extremely efficient offensively, finishing the evening with a .407 hitting percentage, compared to just .216 for the Eagles.
Central will host a team to be announced in the quarterfinals of the Heart Conference Tournament Saturday, Nov. 6 at 4:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
