Fulton, Mo. - The Central Methodist Volleyball program dropped a Heart of America Conference match on the road against William Woods University Wednesday evening in Fulton, Missouri.
Central fell to the Owls by scores of 25-23, 25-20, and 25-14.
The Eagles held the lead for most of the first set, but the Owls rallied to tie it at 22 before closing out the win. In the second set, Central put together its best performance hitting .400 with 13 kills and just one error.
Despite the effort, the Owls pulled away and went up 2-0. The Eagles' offense stalled in the third set allowing the Owls to come away with the sweep.
The Eagles were outmatched offensively overall, hitting just .198 as a team compared to the Owls' impressive .327.
Junior Martina Gonzato led the team in hitting with nine kills, followed by Lakeland College transfer Luciana Araujo with seven.
Sophomore setter, Mariah Bostic-Jones, dished out 17 assists followed by freshman Ramsey Spinks with eight.
The Eagles continue conference play with a weekend in Iowa, facing Clarke University on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Mount Mercy on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
