Dubuque, Iowa - The Central Methodist Volleyball program overcame a slow start with a four-set win over the Clarke University Pride Friday night in Dubuque, Iowa.
Central won the match by scores of 18-25, 25-16, 25-13, and 25-21.
With the win, CMU improves to 12-6 and 4-4 in the Heart of America, while the Pride drop to 2-19 and 0-11 in conference action.
The Eagles struggled in the opening set, hitting just .062 with 11 attack errors. However, Central regrouped in set two with a .138 hitting percentage and held the Pride to negative hitting in the frame.
CMU continued to improve in sets three and four, hitting .353 and .361 respectively to come away with the 3-1 victory.
Luciana Araujo was Central's most efficient hitter, registering 11 kills on 18 swings for an attack percentage of .500.
Joana Milho matched Araujo with 11 kills while adding three digs and a block.
Martina Gonzato reported the most kills at the end of the night with 14.
Hailey Dreier chipped in six kills, follwed by Riley Kortkamp with five.
The duo of Mariah Bostic-Jones and Ramsey Spinks dished out 24 and 22 assists respectively. Additionally, Bostic-Jones recorded five digs and notched a pair of service aces.
Lauryn Farish led the defense with 12 digs, followed by Vitoria Martins with 10.
Central concludes their weekend roadtrip of Iowa with a 12:00 p.m. matchup against Mount Mercy University on Saturday, Oct. 4.
