Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist Volleyball program extended its win streak to three matches with a clean sweep of local rival Missouri Valley College Friday night inside Puckett Field House.
CMU took the match in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-16. With the win, the Eagles improve to 14-6 overall and 6-4 in the Heart of America. Missouri Valley drops to 11-11 and 4-7 in conference play.
Central found an early lead in the first set after a nine-point serving run from freshman libero Vitoria Martins. The Eagles held the lead for the remainder of the set and closed it out with another serving run from senior Kiya Kolb.
The second set showcased true CMU fight. The Eagles found themselves down 14-23 but stormed back with an 11-point run. Portugal native Joana Milho went on a ten-point run for the Eagles to close out the set.
Set three was all Central. Sophomore setter Mariah Bostic-Jones closed out the set with two service aces to secure the sweep. As a team, Central finished with ten total service aces.
Milho led offensively with 11 kills, followed by Jefferson College transfer Summer Hake with nine kills for a .583 hitting percentage. Senior Hailey Dreier led the percentage column with a perfect game of seven kills for a .636 percentage. Martina Gonzalo also chipped in seven kills.
Mariah Bostic-Jones dished out a whopping 24 assists, accompanied by freshman setter Ramsey Spinks with 18. Defensively, Martins and Milho both registered 11 digs.
The Eagles continue conference play next Tuesday in Canton, Missouri, against the Culver-Stockton Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.
