Oskaloosa, Iowa - The No. 16-ranked Central Methodist women's wrestling team faced a stiff test on the road Wednesday evening, falling to No. 5 William Penn in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.
The dual began with the Statesmen picking up forfeits at 103 and 110 pounds, putting CMU in an early deficit.
At 117 pounds, Carysa Corrado squared off against No. 2 Mia Palumbo. Palumbo secured a first-period fall at the 1:29 mark despite a competitive start from Corrado. Sierra Alamilla followed at 124 and battled No. 12 Tatiana Paragas, who claimed a 12-1 technical fall. Alamilla's offensive effort earned the Eagles a team point for scoring in the match.
Emmy Begemann met No. 5 Kendall Bostelman at 131, where Bostelman recorded a quick fall just 19 seconds into the bout. At 138 pounds, Emily Neumann took on No. 2 Esther Kolawole, who secured a 10-0 technical fall. Eve Herlyn rounded out the middle weights at 145, falling by pin at the 3:26 mark to Maeley Elsbury.
Central picked up team points in the 160 pound weight class. Annsleigh Alexander delivered the highlight of the night for the Eagles, earning a fall over Kylee Eastwood at 3:53 to put CMU on the board.
In the upper weights, No. 18 Grace Timmons faced No. 9 Piper Fowler at 180, with Fowler earning a 10-0 technical fall. The dual concluded at 207 pounds, where No. 20 Christina Page battled No. 8 Phoebe Burt in a tightly contested matchup. Burt escaped with a narrow 5-4 decision, while Page's offensive output secured another team point for CMU.
Central will conclude regular season action at the Wildcat Open Saturday, Feb. 14 in Baldwin City, Kansas.
