Track begins outdoor season at CMU Open

Track begins outdoor season at CMU Open

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist track program began the 2021 outdoor season hosting the 2021 CMU Open Saturday afternoon at Davis Field. 

Highlighting the afternoon was freshman sprinter Kailey Johnson, who qualified for nationals in the 100m hurdles. Johnson finished in first place in the event with a final time of 14.94, good enough to book a trip to her first-ever outdoor national championships.

The 4x100m relay team of Abdulai RashidMohammed Nyaoga, Curtis Johns, and Nehemiah Colyer won the finals with a time of 41.90, hitting the 'B' standard to earn a trip to nationals.

Kaitlyn Weber posted a third-place finish in the long jump with a final jump of 5.25 meters. She also tallied a personal best of 10.79 meters in the triple jump, good enough for a third-place finish.

Freshman Tori Olivarez competed in the discus, throwing a new PR of 36.85 meters to place fifth, while teammate Hannah Mitchell won the event with a final toss of 39.96 meters.

The women's 4x100m relay team of Johnson, Jada Gaines, Mason Fitzgerald, and Dayana Camillo earned a second-place standing after running the event in a final time of 49.25. The 4x400m relay team also made up of Johnson, and Camilo, Madeline Weiseman, and Abbie Hale finished second in a time of 4:04.66.

Gaines also claimed a Top-3 finish in the 100m dash with a time of 13:01 and Wieseman ran a personal best of 2:26.75 in the 800m run, good enough for fifth place.

On the men's side, Abdulai Rashid and Spencer Campeau placed fourth and fifth in the long jump with marks of 6.79 and 6.78 meters respectively. Freshman Joe Slattery PR'd in the triple jump with a final jump of 12.52 meters to earn fourth place.

Robert Jerrick claimed victory in the pole vault with a jump of 14 feet, nine inches, while senior Hayden Hackman recorded a huge personal best in the discus in 45.43 meters.

Shawn Kiptoo placed third in the 1500m run in 4:07 and Nehemiah Colyer and Alex Ayala finished second and fourth in the 400m hurdles. Kiptoo also claimed victory in the 3000m run in a time of 8:58.43.

Senior sprinter Jacob Fritz earned a third-place finish in the 200m dash in a time of 22:55, just .13 from the lead. The 4x400m relay team of Hackman, Brock Jackson, Jack Schiffhauer, and Mykal Porter finished third overall in a time of 3:30.81.

The Eagles will next head to fellow Heart member Baker University for the Baker Relays on Saturday, March 27 in Baldwin City, Kan.
