Kansas City, Mo. – The track & field duo of Kailey Johnson and Taylor Bottomley were recognized as Heart Athletes of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Bottomley continues his record-breaking senior season, as he broke the school record in the men's hammer throw with a final toss of 55.88 meters on the first day of the CMU Invite. He improved his national qualifying mark to earn a first-place finish. On day two, he broke another school record, this time in the shot put with a final toss of 16.43 meters. The throw was also good enough to hit the 'A' standard to qualify for nationals.
Freshman Kailey Johnson won the 200m dash with a time of 26.02 and she also finished second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.82 seconds. The Columbia native participated in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams that won their events with final times of 49.59 and 3:39.60.
CMU track & field will be back in action on Saturday, April 10 for the Lincoln Open in Jefferson City, Mo.
