Des Moines, Iowa - The Central Methodist Outdoor Track & Field programs competed in the 2021 Heart of America Outdoor Track & Field Conference Championships Friday and Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
The women posted a second place finish out of 13 teams with 115 points, while the men placed third out of 13 with 105 points. Grand View claimed both the men's and women's titles with 176 and 208 points respectively.
On the women's side, freshman Kailey Johnson was the highest point scorer. She claimed the conference title in the 100m hurdles in a time of 15.19 seconds. Johnson finished as the runner up in 100m dash (12.75), the 4x100m relay (48.98) and the 4x400m relay (4:04.58). She also posted a third place finish in the 200m dash (25.74).
Darly Camilo-Montenegro finished third in the 400m dash in a time of 59.63 seconds and senior distance runner Lisa Sauter ran the 10000m run in a time of 39:48.21, good enough for fourth place.
Lillian Patterson, Katelyn Moeller, and Sarah King finished 3-5 in the 5000m race walk. The 4x100m relay team of Johnson, Jada Gaines, Mason Fitzgerald, and Antoinette Flowers posted a second place finish out of eight teams in a time of 48.98 seconds. The group also finished second in the 4x400m relay in a time 4:04.58.
Calyssa Plymell competed in the javelin, finishing fourth with a mark of 36.52 meters. Kaitlyn Weber placed fourth in both the long jump and triple jump with marks of 5.38 and 10.75 meters respectively. Amara Reichert and Caroline Weatherford tied for third place in the pole vault, both with a mark 2.90 meters.
Aquila Mucubaquire placed fourth in the heptathlon, winning the shot put with a final toss of 10.21 meters.
The men's side boasted two conference champions. Senior Hayden Hackman placed first in the decathlon with 5936 points. The Glasgow, Mo. native claimed victory in eight of the 10 events. Mohammed Nyaoga won the 400m dash in a time of 49.79 seconds to claim the the individual Heart title.
Nehemiah Colyer posted a third place standing in the 400m hurdles, running the event in a time of 55.33 seconds. Senior distance runner Radovan Kemboi placed third with a time of 15:31.18 in the men's 5000m run. In addition, Kemboi collected a third place finish in the 10,000m run in 31:41.67, while fellow teammate Shawn Kiptoo just missed the podium with a fourth place finish in 31:45.33.
The 4x400 team of Hackman, Nyaoga, Brock Jackson, and Colyer placed second in a time of 3:18.30. In the field, senior Taylor Bottomley finished third in both the discus and the hammer with marks of 44.35m and 51.14m respectively.
Hackman and Robert Jerrick finished 2-3 in the pole vault with marks of 4.60 and 4.45 meters.
The Eagles will now look to the NAIA Outdoor National Championships set to take place May 26-28 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
