Pella, Iowa / Lincoln Neb.- The Central Methodist indoor track & field programs divided their teams and split the weekend at the Nebraska Graduate Classic in Lincoln, Neb. and the Dutch Athletics Classic in Pella, Iowa.
Competing at Nebraska Graduate Classic, sophomore sprinter Dayana Montenegro posted a fourth place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 58.64 seconds, a new personal best and just short of the national qualifying standard. Montenegro also finished fifth in the 600m run posting a 1:37.30, a new PR and good enough to qualify for the national meet.
Kailey Johnson posted a third place finish in the 200m dash in a personal best time of 26:10. Jada Gaines hit a new PR in the prelims of the 60m dash with 7.91. Jada would ultimately finish seventh in the event.
At the Dutch Athletics Classic, Josh Henderson posted a second place finish out of 18 athletes in the men's weight throw at 15.33 meters. He also placed third in the shot put at 13.90 meters.
Parker Yager finished second in the men's pole vault with a final mark of 4.10 meters. In the womens pole vault Sadie Heisner and Carter Hawkins went 1-2 with vaults of 3.05 and 2.90 meters respectively. In addition to her second-place finish in the pole vault, Hawkins also finished second in 60m hurdles in 9.89, just .03 off from the top spot.
CMU newcomer Aytonn Bar-Shimon took the 600m hurdles with a 1:24.64, while Jack Schiffhauer followed up in second in 1:28.80.
The CMU women of Kaitlyn Weber, Sarah Johnson, and Heisner swept the triple jump, as Weber won the event with a leap of 10.70 meters.
In the distance events, Madeline Wieseman and Katherine Bangert finished 1-2 in the 1000m run with times of 3:17.50 and 3:20.12. Kaleb Bramman and Zy'Shonne Cowans posted second and third place finishes in the 1000m run on the mens side , and the women's 4x400m relay team of Bangert, Isabella Ross, Wieseman and Claire Sykes ran the distance in 4:36.15 placing third.
Overall in the Dutch Athletic team standings, the women placed third out of six, tallying 98 points while the men placed fourth with 83 points.
Central will next compete in the NAIA/Juco Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 22 at 12:00 p.m. in Pittsburg, Kan.
