Kansas City, Mo. - The Central Methodist track and field duo of Taylor Bottomley and Keiara-Ashley Cunningham were named the Heart Track and Field Athletes of the Week by the conference office Monday.
Bottomley was named the Heart Men's Field Athlete of the Week while Cunningham took home the Heart Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor.
Bottomley, who has now a four-time Heart Field Athlete of the Week in 2021-22, had a monster showing at the Margaret Simmons Invite this past week in Murray, Ky.
The Harrisburg, Mo. native hit the 'A' standard in three different events including the discus, hammer, and shot put. He posted two first place finishes in the discuss and hammer with throws of 51.10 meters and 60.40 meters respectively, and broke the school record in both the hammer and shot put.
Cunningham was recongized as the Heart Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career. The Ontario, Canada native won the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:03.72, hitting the qualifying 'B' standard for the national championships. She was also part of the 4x400m relay team that broke the school record with a time of 3:57.24.
Central will next host the CMU Invite April 1-2 at Davis Field.
