Eagles sweep team championships at CMU Invite

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Outdoor Track & Field programs hosted their final home meet of 2022 this weekend, the CMU Invite at Davis Field. 

The women won the team title with 193 total points, while the men also placed first with 140 points. 

For the women, sophomore sprinter Kailey Johnson won the 100m dash with a personal best of 12.16 seconds. Teammate Carter Hawkins finished fourth with a personal best of 12.72 seconds. In addition, Hawkins won the pole vault with a mark of 3.18 meters. Johnson also hit a new personal best in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.31 seconds, a new school record and good enough to hit the 'A' standard to qualify for the national meet. 

Megan Aubuchon also hit the 'A' standard in the hurdles with a time of 14.34 seconds, a new personal best.

Dayana Montenegro placed third in the 400m dash at 58.47 seconds. 

The women's 4x400m relay made up of Montenegro, Keiara-Ashley Cunningham, Jessica Bailey, and Johnson broke the school record in 3:56.29, hitting the 'B' standard for the national meet. 

In the distance events, Katherine Bangert ran in the 5000m run, finishing second in a time of 20:40.65. The duo Lilian Patterson and Baleigh Morris placed 1-2 in the 5000m racewalk with times of 30:55.81 and 30:58.50 respectively, both being new personal bests.

Kaitlyn Weber hit the national qualifying 'B' standard in the long jump with a winning mark of 5.65 meters. Kailey Johnson was right behind Weber in second place with a new PR of 5.55 meters. Weber also won the triple jump with a final jump of 11.26 meters. Sarah Johnson placed second in the event with a mark of 10.76 meters. 

In the multi events, the duo of Renee Finke and Aquila Mucubaquire placed second and third in the heptathlon. Finke finished the seven event competition with 3573 points while Mucubaquire compiled 3382 points. 

On the men's side, sophomore Brennan Moots placed first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.80 seconds, hitting the 'B' standard for the national meet. Curtis Johns ran a season's best in the 200m dash at 22.10 seconds, good enough for third place. 

Alexander Ayala bit the 'B' standard in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.45 seconds to finish second in the event. 

Ethan Smith won the decathlon with 6001 total points, a national qualifying 'B' standard. Reigning NAIA National Field Athlete of the Week Taylor Bottomley placed first in the shot put with a throw of 17.13 meters. 

Josh Henderson finished second in the discus with a PR of 45.21 meters, while Colder Evans placed fourth with a throw of 42.76 meters. The 4x400m relay team of Adam Trachsel, Curtis Johns, Jack Schiffhauer and Alex Ayala concluded the meet with a victory in 3:22.18. 

Central will next compete in the Lincoln Open Saturday, April 9 in Jefferson City, Mo.
