Pittsburg, Kan. - The Central Methodist Indoor Track & Field program had a solid showing at the NAIA/JUCO Invitational Saturday in Pittsburg, Kan.
The meet, hosted by Pittsburg State University featured numerous NAIA and community college programs from around the region. As a team, the CMU Women finished second out of 18 teams with 70.5 points. The men placed third out of 22 programs with 52 points.
Altogether, three Eagles hit national qualifying standards and a school record was broken twice in the span of just seconds.
On the men's side, sophomore throwers Josh Henderson and Colder Evans finished 1-2 in the weight throw, with Henderson hitting the national qualifying 'B' standard at 16.30m. Evans had a throw of 15.79m.
Moving into the shot put, freshman Brayton Stephenson posted a second place finish in the event with a PR of 15.21m.
Freshman Jaxon Hiser won the men's pole vault with a mark of 4.10m. Fellow teammate Neil Green placed third in the event at 3.50m. Junior middle distance runner Doriye Jackson ran a time of 1:55.49 in the 800m run, a new personal best and good enough for a third place finish in the event.
For the CMU women, sophomore Carter Hawkins placed second in the pole vault with a final vault of 3.20m. The duo of Baylee Beard and Karli Wolfe went 1-2 in the weight throw. Wolfe started the event with a school record throw of 15.93m. Beard followed, breaking the record again with a throw of 16.04m. Both marks were good enough to hit the national qualifying 'B' standard.
Reigning Heart Field Athlete of the Week Delaney Miller won the high jump with a mark of 1.61m, followed by Renee Finke who placed third at 1.50m. Sarah Johnson placed second in the triple jump at 10.29m, and freshman Natalie Garr finished third in the 600m run in a time of 1:41.38.
The Eagles will next compete in the UCM Mule Relays beginning Friday, Jan. 27 in Warrensburg, Mo.
