New Orleans, La. - The Central Methodist Track and Field trio of Colder Evans, Assistant Coach Tevin Riddle, and Head Coach Kenny Anderson earned South Central Regional honors from the USTFCCCA this week.
Evans was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Year, Coach Riddle Assistant Coach of the Year, and Coach Anderson Coach of the Year.
Evans qualified for this year's outdoor national championships in the discus, hammer, and shot put. The native of Unionville, Missouri, is currently ranked among the top-20 athletes nationally in both the hammer and discus.
His best mark in the discus is 50.88m (166-11). At this year's Heart Outdoor Championships, Evans earned silver medals in both the discus and the hammer and fourth place in the shot put. The honor marks Evans' first regional award of his career.
Riddle was tabbed as the South Central Regional Assistant Coach of the Year for the first time. In his fourth year with the program, Riddle coached Eagle athletes to account for 109 points at the Heart Outdoor Conference Championships, winning titles in five events.
He guided athletes to eight national qualifying spots in six events: high jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, hammer, and decathlon. For his efforts, Coach Riddle was named the Heart of America Men's Outdoor Conference Assistant Coach of the Year.
Anderson is no stranger to regional honors, as this marks his sixth award (men's or women's) of his career. He led the Eagles to the team title at the Heart Outdoor Championships earlier this month, winning nine events and tallying 196 total points. As a result, Coach Anderson was named the Heart Outdoor Coach of the Year, the eighth conference honor of his career with the Eagles.
The CMU Men are currently the top-ranked team in the South Central Region and have two events with top-10 national Event Rankings, including a No. 2 ranking in the shot put.
Central will focus on the NAIA National Championships, which will be held May 21-23 at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana.
