Eagles Open New Year at Alexis Jarrett Invitational

Columbia, Mo. - The Central Methodist indoor track & field program began the new year with several top performances at the Alexis Jarrett Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri in Columbia.

On the women's side Central Methodist's depth was on full display in the women's 4x400-meter relay, as the Eagles placed second, third, and fourth overall. The CMU "B" squad earned runner-up honors in 3:55.61, followed closely by the "A" team in 3:57.62, while the "C" team won finished fourth overall in 4:00.62.

In the sprints, Zakiya Porter finished second in the 60 meters with a time of 7.75, while Maria Sahagun added a fourth-place showing at 7.84. CMU continued its success in the 200 meters as Allena Rowland placed third overall in 25.34, and freshman Hannah Reed followed with a top-five finish, taking fifth at 25.86.

Freshman Zoey Hannam delivered a strong middle-distance performance, placing third in the 600 meters with a time of 1:47.05.

In the field events, Haley Bellamy captured the women's long jump title, winning the event with a leap of 5.83 meters, and breaking her own school record along the way. Currently, the jump is the No. 4 mark in the NAIA this season.

Teammate Annemarie Koerner added a third-place finish at 5.56 meters, giving CMU two top-three spots in the event.

Anaya Little also earned a with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (11.33m).

For the men, the sprint group had an impressive day in the 60 meters, placing three athletes in the top five. Wilton George led the way with a second-place finish in 6.90, followed by Devon Fletcher in fourth (6.94) and Charles Young in fifth (6.96).

Young continued his success in the 200 meters, finishing second overall in 21.83, while Fletcher added a third-place finish at 21.95 and freshman D'Shawn Finney placed fourth in 22.01.

In the middle distances, Oliver Cabana delivered one of CMU's top performances of the meet by winning the men's mile in 4:34.14.

Additionally, the Eagles also swept spots two through four in the men's 600 meters, led by Tyrone Summerall (second, 1:22.23), Tristan Hickman (third, 1:23.88), and Randy Rojas Mendez  (fourth, 1:24.36).

Freshman Isaac Lawson added a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters, crossing the line in 49.05 for a new school record. 

Junior Brian Shine qualified for nationals on his last attempt of the triple jump with a leap of 14.53 meters. Wyatt Smith finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 13.83 meters. 

Central is slated to compete in the Coach Alsup Invite, hosted on the campus of Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri Saturday, January 17.
