Softball's Yount named Academic All-American

Softball's Yount named Academic All-American

TOWSON, Md. � Central Methodist senior�infielder�Kayla Yount�has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America� College Division Softball first team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Yount becomes the second conswins the award after former Eagle standout Stephanie Sullivant was named to the same squad in 2011.

The College Division Academic All-America� softball teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.

In the classroom, the Olathe, Kan., native sported a perfect�4.00 GPA in�Business. On the field, Yount led the Eagles this season with a .400 batting average, eight homeruns and 47 RBI and helped guide the Heart of America Athletic Conference regular-season and conference tournament champions to its first NAIA Softball Championship in 31 years and second in school history.

Yount was one of five players on the first team that played in the NAIA Softball National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. Besides Yount, Katie Carson of Concordia (Cal.) University, pitcher Mariah Worley and designated player Heather Koch of Azusa Pacific University and pitcher Emily Bergstrom of the University of Houston-Victoria played in the 32-team championship.

The 11 members of the Capital One Academic All-America� College Division softball first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.84.
