Softball's Utley, Dennis named Academic All-Americans

Softball's Utley, Dennis named Academic All-Americans
TOWSON, Md. � Central Methodist junior pitcher Aubrey Utley and senior designated player Courtney Dennis have been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America� College Division Softball teams, as selected Monday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Utley is a second-team choice, while Dennis was voted to the third team.

The College Division Academic All-America� softball teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.

Utley and Dennis helped lead the Eagles to their third straight Heart of America Athletic Conference regular season crown and second straight conference tournament title and berth in the National Championship.

In the classroom, Utley sports a perfect�4.00 GPA in�Biology. In the circle, the Trenton, Mo., native posted an 18-5 record with a 1.67 ERA. In 151.1 innings pitched, Utley struck out 114 against only 12 walks, and opponents batted a league-low .213 against her.

In the classroom, Dennis recorded a 3.74 GPA in Communication. In 30 games this season, the Sierra Vista, Ariz., product hit .297 and ranked second on the squad with six homers to go along with 22 RBIs, three doubles, 14 runs scored, a slugging percentage of .581 and an on-base percentage of .395.

2013 marks the third straight year Central Methodist has had at least one player receive Academic All-America recognition. Kayla Yount and Stephanie Sullivant were named to the first team in 2012 and 2011, respectively.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 18,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
