COLUMBUS, Ga. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Wednesday afternoon that Central Methodist leads all institutions with 10 softball players on the 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete list. This marks the third time in the last four years the Eagles have led the nation.
Central Methodist junior pitcher Aubrey Utley (Trenton, Mo.), senior infielder Brooke Brandt (Sullivan, Mo.), junior outfielder Bri Kirkland (Bullard, Texas), senior outfielder Caitlin Holman (Boonville, Mo.), senior designated player Courtney Dennis (Sierra Vista, Ariz.), junior pitcher Elisabeth Nation (Vandalia, Mo.), senior outfielder Erika Reinagel (Kelso, Mo.), junior infielder Juliette Kein (Burlington, Ill.), junior infielder Megan Robbins (Las Vegas, Nev.) and junior catcher Melanie Wilmsmeyer (New Franklin, Mo.) are among 286 student-athletes that have been named Scholar-Athletes.
Dennis, Reinagel and Holman earn the honor for the second straight year.
The Eagles tied for the national lead in 2010 with eight before taking the top spot with nine in 2011. The Green and Black were second nationally last year with six.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
