KANSAS CITY - Central Methodist catcher Michele Rupard, pitcher Aubrey Utley and head coach Pat Reardon garnered top honors as the 2014 Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) softball awards and all-conference teams were released Monday.
The Eagles also had five players on the All-HAAC first team, four on the second team and two Gold Glove winners.
Rupard was named the Player of the Year. Utley was voted the Pitcher of the Year for a fourth-straight season, and Reardon was tabbed Coach of the Year for a fourth-straight campaign. Monday's announcement marks the second-straight year the Eagles have swept the conference's top honors.
Rupard becomes the second Eagle in program history to win the Player of the Year honor after sophomore infielder Lauren Geringer captured the title a year ago. Rupard, who was named the 2012 HAAC Freshman of the Year, has posted a single-season school record 38 walks and ranks 31st in the nation in doubles (16), 35th in runs scored per game (1.071) and 47th in slugging percentage (0.717). In 42 games this season, the junior catcher from Kansas City leads the team in batting average (.408), hits (49), doubles (16), runs scored (45), on base percentage (.556) and slugging percentage (.717). She ranks third on the team in home runs (7) and RBIs (28).
Utley continues to cement her legacy as one of the greatest pitchers in league history. The senior has been dominant this season in the circle, rolling to a 24-1 record in 26 appearances to become the school's all-time leader in wins (92) and strikeouts (552). Her 13 shutouts in 2014 are a single-season school record. In the NAIA this season, Utley ranks fifth in wins (24), 10th in innings pitched per game (6.28), 12th in fewest walks allowed per nine innings (0.86), 16th in earned run average (1.33) and 39th in innings pitched (163.1). She has a team-high 131 strikeouts against only 20 walks. Opponents are batting only .228 against the Trenton, Mo., product.
Reardon has been named Coach of the Year seven times (1995, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) and guided his squad to a fourth-straight HAAC regular-season championship, third-straight HAAC Championship Series title and third-straight berth in the NAIA Softball World Series Opening Round. In his 22nd year at the helm, Reardon became the 12th active NAIA coach to reach 600 career wins, accomplishing the feat May 2. The Eagles are 34-2 in league play the last two season under Reardon and 66-8 during the last four years. His 2014 team has matched a single-season school record for wins with 41, and the Eagles have won 30 or more games for seven straight years.
Rupard and Utley, who have been first-team All-HAAC selections every year at Central Methodist, are joined on the first team by teammates Geringer, Bri Boatwright and Jessica Wilmes.
Geringer has been a first-team All-HAAC selection her first two years in Fayette. The O'Fallon, Mo., native broke the school's all-time home runs record April 12 and currently has 24 in two seasons. Geringer ranks 31st in the NAIA and leads the team this season in dingers (11) and RBIs (39). In 44 games, she is batting .331 with 42 hits, 37 runs scored, 10 doubles and a triple. Geringer has walked 30 times, second highest in a season in Central Methodist history, and has an on base percentage of .459 and slugging percentage of .685.
Boatwright earns her first All-HAAC honor as a junior. The infielder from Stoutland, Mo., is batting .364 through 39 games. Boatwright ranks second on the team with 34 RBIs and fourth with six home runs. She ranks third on the team in hits (43) to go along with 24 runs scored, eight doubles, an on base percentage of .422 and slugging percentage of .585.
Wilmes garners her first All-HAAC honor as a sophomore. In 44 games, the outfielder from Troy, Mo., has 48 hits, second highest on the team, and is batting .375, third highest. Wilmes has four home runs, 27 RBIs, 34 runs scored, 10 doubles, two triples, an on base percentage of .456 and slugging percentage of .578.
The Eagles' Bri Ford, Lindie Adair, Megan Robbins and Mary Kate Townley were named to the second team.
Ford has been an All-HAAC member for the last three seasons. The senior pitcher ranks fourth all-time in school history in wins (38) and fifth in strikeouts (228). This season, the Branson, Mo., native is 15-2 in 20 appearances with a 3.33 ERA. Ford has tossed 15 complete games with four shutouts and in 119.2 innings pitched has given up only 95 hits with 91 strikeouts against 40 walks. She ranks 22nd in the nation in innings pitched per game (5.98). Opponents are batting only .217 against Ford, which is 50th in the country.
Adair earns her first All-HAAC honor in her first season on the team. The junior infielder, who also plays forward on the Eagles' women's soccer team, is second on the team with a .392 batting average and .485 on base percentage through 39 games. The Boonville, Mo., native has four home runs, 21 RBIs, 31 hits, 25 runs scored, four doubles and a slugging percentage of .595.
Robbins earns her second straight All-HAAC second team honor. In 44 games, the senior infielder is batting .289 and is second on the team with eight home runs, including four in the last five games. The Las Vegas, Nev., product has 27 RBIs, 35 hits, 29 runs scored, 11 doubles, an on base percentage of .386 and slugging percentage of .579.
Townley earns her second straight All-HAAC second team honor and third All-HAAC selection after being named honorable mention in 2011. In 45 games this season, the senior outfielder is batting .307 with two home runs, 17 RBIs, 39 hits, 22 runs scored, six doubles and a triple. The O'Fallon, Mo., native has an on base percentage of .378 and slugging percentage of .417.
Rupard and Geringer were named to the Gold Glove team. Rupard earns the honor for a second-straight season and has committed only one error in 208 chances, good for a .995 fielding percentage, in 2014. Geringer has made only four errors in 348 chances, good for a .989 fielding percentage, this season. In the NAIA in 2014, Geringer ranks 16th in putouts per game (7.57), 19th in putouts (333), 22nd in chances per game (7.91) and 24th in chances (348).
