(#20) Eagles Softball Sweep William Woods

(#20) Eagles Softball Sweep William Woods

Fulton MO: The Central Methodist University Eagles traveled to Fulton MO Sunday for a double header. The Eagles spotted the home team a run in the bottom of the second, but responded quickly with 4 runs in the top of the 3rd on their way to a 15-1 victory. During the pivotal 3rd inning, the Eagles had 5 hits and used 2 Owl errors to score their 4 runs.

The visiting Eagles also platted 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th before blowing the game open with 8 runs in the top of the 7th. In all the Eagles totaled 13 hits in the game, with Hannah Steeby (FR/St. Joseph, Mo.), Alyssa Lilly (SR/Wentzville, Mo.), Bailey Fidler (SO/Pleasant Hill, Mo.), and Taylor Patton (SO/Columbia, Mo.) each slapping 2 hits apiece. Hannah Blackmon (SR/Beaumont, Texas) and Lilly each had 3 RBI's. Erin Enke (JR/Martinez, Calif.) carried the work on the mound for the Eagles, pitching all 7 innings while striking out 4 and walking 4. She allowed 6 hits and the one earned run in the 2nd inning.

In game 2, the Eagles spotted the home team 4 runs to start the game, 2 in each of the 1st and 2nd innings before coming back with 3 in the top of the 3rd. The Eagles continued scoring in bunches during the 4th and 5th innings, putting up 4 runs in each, taking a 11-4 lead on their way to the 13-7 victory. Addyson Reardon and Alyssa Lilly each had two hits for the game, with Lilly also pushing across 6 runs to lead the Eagles. The biggest inning for CMU was the 4th. After Reardon loaded the bases with a 2 out single, Alyssa Lilly sent a 2-2 pitch over the fence for her first home run of the season. The Eagles took the 7-4 lead and never looked back. Alexis Kohrs (SR/Tilden, Ill.) shook off a rough start to pick up the win, striking out 6 while allowing 5 walks and 7 Owl runs (6 earned). Ashley Litton (SR/Lee's Summit, Mo.) picked up the save for CMU, striking out 1.

Pat Reardon was pleased with the games, "We played better in all three phases of the game today. Our hitters did a good job of picking up our pitchers when needed, and our pitchers did a great job of holding William Woods in check. We were able to play a lot of combinations of players and see what some kids could do."

The win brings the Eagles to a .500 record, sitting at 4-4 overall, and they now have a 11 day break before departing for the Gulf Shores Invitational, in Gulf Shores AL. They will open up with Spring Hill College on March 3rd.
