KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A pair of Central Methodist University players who led the Eagle softball team to an unblemished 4-0 week were honored Monday when pitcher Erin Enke and leftfielder Alyssa Lilly were named to the weekly Heart of America Athletic Conference softball honors for games played between March 20-26. Enke was named Heart Pitcher of the Week and Lilly was named Player of the Week, the league office announced.
Enke, a 5-10 junior from Martinez, Calif., produced two strong pitching performances during the seven-day span, averaging 12 strikeouts, while posting a 2-0 record, as the Eagles stretched their Heart of America Athletic Conference win streak to five games.
Enke started the week with a two-hit shutout of Missouri Valley College, with 13 strikeouts and no walks in a 2-0 victory. She then allowed just one run on four hits in a 5-1 CMU victory over Peru State College. She fanned 11 batters in that game, while walking only two. Both, contests were complete-game victories as she produced a 0.50 earned run average.
In 61 innings pitched on the season, Enke has struck out 68, with only 27 walks. She has pitched eight complete games, with three shutouts, a 6-3 season record and a 1.49 ERA.
Lilly, a 5-6 senior from Wentzville, Mo., hit an impressive .462 for the week, producing six hits in 13 at-bats. She drove in five runs, with three home runs and a double, while not striking out.
She posted a 1.231 slugging percentage for the week and a .462 on-base percentage, with 16 total bases. The highlight of the week was a 3-for-3 effort against Peru State College, with a pair of home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored in a 12-1 CMU victory.
Lilly his hitting .411 on the year, with a .740 slugging percentage, including five home runs, a pair of triples and five doubles, as she is 30-for-73 at the dish. She has only been held hitless in three games all season.
Central Methodist (15-7-1) opens this week tied with Evangel University (12-8) for first place in the Heart's Southern Division standings, as both teams both are holding 6-2 conference marks. The Eagles will be in Baldwin City, Kan. on Tuesday, as they take on Baker University in a 5 p.m. doubleheader. CMU will return home this weekend for twinbills against Grand View University Saturday and William Penn University on Sunday. Both doubleheaders will get underway at 1 p.m.
