KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Methodist University junior pitcher Erin Enke captured the Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week honor for the second time this season for the week of April 24-30, despite the Eagles having six games washed out last week. The Martinez, Calif. native won the award after posting a complete-game three-hitter, the league office announced earlier this week.
Enke, a junior hurler, captured the award in her final appearance of the regular season last Monday when she threw a three-hitter against Baker University, not allowing an earned run in a complete-game 2-1 victory over the Wildcats.
Enke, who improved to 11-8 on the year in the circle and picked up her third straight win, fanned nine batters, which was the sixth time this season that she has struck out at least nine. She has 142 strikeouts on the season, compared to just 73 walks, with five shutouts to her credit, with 15 complete games.
She currently ranks 22nd in the nation in innings pitched per game (5.99), 33rd in opponent batting average (.205) and 36th in hits allowed per nine innings (5.34).
This is the second time this season Enke has been named Heart Pitcher of the Week. She received the honor after her performance during the week of March 20-26.
Central Methodist will be opening the Heart of America Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament on Thursday. The Eagles, who are the No. 5-seed, received a bye in the play-in round and will open the second-round with a matchup with No. 4-seed Avila University at 10:30 a.m.
