OLATHE, Kan. - The Central Methodist softball picked up two more wins after defeating Midamerica Nazarene in Heart of America Athletic Conference action on Tuesday evening.
Taylor Patton (SR/Columbia, Mo.), Jordan Jenkins (JR/Kansas City, Mo.), Kelli Gorman (SO/St. Charles, Mo.), and Morgan Willis (JR/Carrollton, Mo.) each added a long ball during the series. Jenkins finished the day going 5-for-6 at the plate, tacking on five runs and four RBIs to her home run.
GAME ONE (Win 20-10)
The Eagles (16-10, 8-4 Heart) took advantage of a 4-RBI game from Sydnie Harmon (SR/Raymore, Mo.) and a strong 12-run inning to defeat the Pioneers 20-10 in the opening game of the double header.
Harmon got CMU on the board first after scoring on a wild pitch, followed by an RBI single from Patton to put the squad up 2-0. Both teams exchanged scoring until the fourth inning when Central put together a rally to score four runs on four hits and one error, knotting the score at 8-8 heading into the fifth.
Bats got hot for CMU in the fifth as the Eagles strung together a 12-run showcase to close the contest. The scoring sensation was highlighted by a double from Harmon, a two-run home run from Patton, a homer from Jenkins, and a slew of singles from Lexi Jones (SO/Wentzville, Mo.), Mae Mitchell (JR/Frederick, Colo.), Willis, and Gorman.
Sabrina Otzenberger (SO/Cedar Hill, Mo.) pitched four innings to secure the win, allowing five hits and three earned runs through 17 at-bats.
GAME TWO (Win 14-4)
The smoking bats continued for Central Methodist in the second game as the Eagles recorded 18 hits through five innings.
The Eagles took a big 6-0 lead in the first inning of the second game that was highlighted by back-to-back bombs from Willis and Gorman. Jenkins hit a bases-loaded double to end the scoring in the inning.
Central Methodist entered the top of the fifth with a 13-1 lead after a pair of big innings in the second and fourth. The final run for the squad came on a single to right from Addison Allard (SO/Wylie, Tex.), bringing home Leah Vossen (FR/Wright City, Mo.) from third.
Keighlan Cronin (FR/St. Charles, Mo.) earned the win on the mound after tossing five innings, giving up six hits and striking out five.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will head to Iowa for a weekend series on the road, beginning with a doubleheader at Clarke on Saturday afternoon before heading to Mount Mercy for a doubleheader on Sunday.
