Eagles finish regular season with sweep of Missouri Valley College

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 5 Central Methodist softball program concluded regular season play with a doubleheader sweep of rival Missouri Valley College Sunday afternoon at Cox Softball Complex.

With the win, the Eagles finish the regular season with a 48-5 overall record including a 34-4 mark in Heart action. Missouri Valley College concludes its season 18-28 and 10-25 in conference play.

Game one was an offensive outburst for the Eagles, as Central scored 19 runs on 21 hits. It is the most runs scored by a CMU softball team since April 2, 2019.

CMU jumped out in front with six runs in the first inning, followed by two in the second, four in the third, and seven in the fourth. 11 different Eagles recorded at least one RBI including Hannah Criswell and Katelyn Kiser, who each drove in three runs. Morgan Willis batted a perfect three-for-three including two doubles and Jordan Jenkins, Katelyn Kolb, and Kaylee Parker each collected two RBI.

Keighlan Cronin earned her 25th win of the season, tossing all five innings and giving up only two earned runs on four hits. She also collected six strikeouts and retired 14 batters.

The Eagles' offense continued to roll early in game two, with the big inning coming in the third. Kelli Gorman started the inning with an RBI single, followed by a two-RBI double from Willis. Madison White concluded the inning with an RBI single to center field which scored Willis from second.

Madison Love threw a complete game, giving up only two earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Love also collected her fifth home run of the season on a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the second inning.

Central has earned the No. 2 seed in the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament hosted by Mount Mercy University May 6-9 at Busse Field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Eagles will face No. 7 seeded Culver-Stockton College Thursday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m.
