Columbia, Mo. - The Central Methodist softball program saw its historic season come to a close in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round, falling in an elimination game to College of Idaho, 6-1, Wednesday afternoon in Columbia, Mo.
With the loss, Central concludes its season with a 50-9 overall record, with the 50 wins being the most in the history of the program. College of Idaho advances to the championship series where they will face No. 2 seeded Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) for the right to go to the NAIA World Series in Columbus, Ga.
The Eagles jumped out in front in the first inning on an RBI single from Madison White that scored Kelli Gorman. However, College of Idaho broke through in the top of the fourth with three runs and three more in the seventh to earn the 6-1 win.
As a team, the Eagles finished the afternoon with four hits, as Gorman led Central with two hits and a run scored. White and Hannah Criswell each picked up a hit as well. Keighlan Cronin got the start in the circle, tossing a complete game and collecting five strikeouts.
