No. 11 Central splits Sunday twin bill with (RV) Baker

Baldwin City, Kan. - The No. 11 Central Methodist softball team split its pair of games against (RV) Baker University by scores of 8-4 and 10-8 Sunday night in Baldwin City, Kan.

The Eagles overall record moves to 9-4 and 1-1 in conference play, while the Wildcats now stand at 10-5 and 1-1 in the Heart.

Central found themselves trailing by a single run entering the top of the seventh inning of game one. An RBI-single from Madison Love tied the game at 4-4 followed by another RBI-single from Daly Garland to give CMU a 5-4 lead.

Macey Harrington iced the game on a three-run home run to centerfield to propel Central to an 8-5 game one victory.

Love, Harrington, and Abbie Marshall led the Eagle bats with two hits apiece, as Harrington tallied three RBI, followed by Love and Marshall with two. Harrington and Kelli Gorman also scored two runs apiece.

Senior ace Keighlan Cronin tossed a complete game, giving up four earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts to earn her fifth win of the year.

The Eagles fell in a high offensive powered second game by a final score of 10-8. Central trailed 10-5 with two innings left to play, before Madison White trimmed the lead on a solo home run to right centerfield. Kaitlyn Kiser followed with an RBI double to score Garland, which cut the lead to 10-7.

Central's final run came courtesy of a fielder's choice from Taylor Dial to score Abbie Marshall. CMU was unable to chip away at the lead any further, as the Wildcats claimed a narrow two-run victory.

As a team, the Central at-bats finished game two with eight runs on 16 hits and four walks, but left 12 runners on base. White, Love, Kiser and Marshall each picked up three hits, while Gorman smacked a three-run home run to centerfield in the top of the fourth inning.

The Eagles will next travel to Park University to play the Pirates Wednesday, March 16 beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Parkville, Mo.
