Atchison, Kan. - The No. 11 Central Methodist softball team pushed its win streak to 10 with a doubleheader sweep over Benedictine College Thursday afternoon in Atchison, Kan.
The Eagles now stand at 19-4 and 11-1 in the Heart, while the Ravens fall to 14-14 and 4-10 in conference play. The 10 wins mark Central's longest winning streak since April 22-May 6, when CMU won 12 straight.
Central opened the doubleheader with a 6-1 victory in game one over Benedictine. The Eagles scored their first two runs on errors by the Raven's defense in the second inning.
After BC trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the third, Central padded its lead with a three run fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Madison White. The Eagles' final run came on a ground out from Daly Garland to score White in the sixth.
Senior ace Keighlan Cronin tossed a complete game en route to her ninth win of the year. The Saint Charles, Mo. native allowed only one earned run on four hits along with 10 strikeouts.
Kelli Gorman and Madison Love each batted two-of-four including a double from Love. Gorman also swiped two bases.
CMU concluded the doubleheader with a 9-0 victory in five innings in game two. Central scored nine runs on 11 hits including three errors by the Raven's defense.
Micaela Harcrow led the Eagle bats with three hits including a two RBI-double and a two RBI-single. White and Katelyn Kiser each picked up two hits, while White recorded her seventh home run of the year. Mikayla Pennell and Abbie Neally also recorded doubles.
Freshman pitcher Mykala Johnico was masterful inside the circle, as the Topeka, Kan. native threw her third no-hitter of the year. Johnico pushed her record to 7-0, tossing five innings and giving up zero runs on no hits with nine strikeouts.
Central will next travel to Culver-Stockton College to take on the Wildcats for a doubleheader beginning Saturday, April 9 at 3:00 p.m. in Canton, Mo.
