Fayette, Mo. - The No. 21 Central Methodist Softball program opened the home portion of its slate with a doubleheader sweep over Cottey College Wednesday afternoon at Cox Softball Complex.
The Eagles won game one, 7-1, followed by a 7-2 victory in game two. Central now improves to 13-5 overall.
Central plated three runs in the bottom of the third followed by four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Carly Robbins led the way with a three-RBI double in the fifth, and Elizabeth Palumbo, Katelyn Kiser, and Kelena Oots each picked up an RBI.
Overall, Central's bats scored seven runs on eight hits and four walks in game one.
Freshman Jordyn Ball had an excellent showing inside the circle, tossing a complete game. The native of Fayette, Mo. gave up just one run on three hits with 11 strikeouts through seven innings of work.
After conceding a run in the top of the first of game two, the Eagles plated three runs in the bottom half of the following frame. Central added a run in the third, two in the fourth, and a run in the sixth.
The Comets managed just one run over the final six innings, as CMU went on to earn a 7-2 victory.
Madison White, Palumbo, and Lauren Hill each picked up two hits, including doubles for both White and Palumbo. Oots also recorded a triple.
Haile Farris pitched five complete innings, giving up one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts. Haley Cotter came in relief and pitched the final two innings, striking out three batters.
The Eagles will next play Clarke University Saturday, March 25 for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
