Eagles Split with Valor to Close Weekend

Eagles Split with Valor to Close Weekend

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 18 Central Methodist Softball program earned a doubleheader split against the Evangel Valor Saturday afternoon at Cox Softball Complex.

The Eagles now stand at 21-7 and 8-2 in the Heart, while Evangel moves to 23-9 and 10-2 in conference play.

Game one was a pitcher's duel, as neither Jordyn Ball or the Valor's Samantha Romano gave up a run through nine innings of work.

The game winner came in the bottom of the 10th inning beginning with Kelena Oots being placed on second due to the international tiebreaker rule. Kaylee Parker would hit a sacrifice bunt to the infield to move Oots just 90 feet away at third with one out.

Reigning Heart Player of the Year Madison White followed, sending a laser down the left field line and just off the glove of the third basemen to bring Oots home for the 1-0 win in extra innings.

Joely Crider led the Eagle bats with three hits including two doubles. White picked up two hits including a triple, while Oots, Montana Stangel, and Kaysie Jolley all tallied a hit.

Ball had the best game of her young career, giving up no runs on just two hits. In addition, the native of Fayette struck out a career-high 17 batters through 10 complete innings of work. She is now 8-2 on the year.

In game two, the Valor plated a pair of runs in the third inning, and then a run in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. Central got on the board in the sixth inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly that would score White.

Central was unable to trim the deficit any further, as the Valor would hang on for the 3-1 win in game two.

The Eagle bats were held to just one run on three hits in the finale. Haile Farris pitched a complete game, giving up three runs, two of which were earned, on six hits and a walk. She also struck out eight batters.

Central will head out on the road to nearby Marshall to face the Missouri Valley Vikings Wednesday, April 12 for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
