Marshall, Mo. - The No. 18 Central Methodist Softball program secured a doubleheader split against rival Missouri Valley College Wednesday evening in Marshall, Mo.
The Eagles fell in the first game, 7-1, before coming back in the seventh inning of game two to earn a 3-1 victory.
Central now stands at 22-8 and 9-3 in the Heart, while the Vikings are now 19-13 and 8-4 in conference action.
Despite tallying nine hits in game one, the Eagles were only able to plate one run in the first inning. Central finished the first game leaving nine runners on base.
The Vikings scored seven runs on seven hits including a five-run second inning to pull away early.
Haley Cotter came in relief in the second, tossing 4.2 innings and giving up just one earned run on five hits with a pair of walks.
CMU found themselves in a pitching duel the second game, trailing 1-0 entering the top of the seventh. Up until the final inning, Central was held to just one hit.
Sophomore catcher Lauren Hill got the rally started with a double to centerfield, followed by a single from Montana Stangel to put runners on the corners with one out.
Senior outfielder Katelyn Kiser would tie the game on a double to centerfield, and a Kelena Oots single to left plated another run. Leading 2-1, Madison White put the finishing touches on the rally, hitting a sacrifice fly to right field to score Kiser from third.
Haile Farris got the start in the circle, tossing a complete game and giving up just one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts.
Central returns home to host William Penn University for a doubleheader Saturday, April 15 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Cox Softball Complex.
