Fayette, Mo. - The No. 18 Central Methodist Softball program secured a doubleheader sweep over (RV) Grand View University Sunday afternoon at Cox Softball Complex.
The Eagles improve to 24-8 and 11-3 in the Heart, while the Vikings fall to 23-13 and 9-7.
CMU won the first game 6-1, and then followed that up with an 8-0 victory in five innings in game two.
In game one, Elizabeth Palumbo led the CMU offense, batting two-for-three including an RBI-double and RBI-triple. In addition, Katelyn Kiser hit a two-RBI double to right field in the fourth inning.
Jordyn Ball tossed a complete game in the circle, giving up just one earned run on two hits and a walk. The freshman from Fayette, Mo. also tallied eight strikeouts.
The Eagles' offense continued to roll in game two, plating four runs in the first inning. Highlighting the inning were back-to-back doubles from Montana Stangel and Palumbo.
Kaysie Jolley put a ball in play which was picked up by Grand View's pitcher in the third inning. A wide throw caused the ball to roll far enough away for both Stangel and Jolley to score, including Jolley rounding the bases.
The Eagles closed the game out with runs in the fourth and fifth inning, making the final score 8-0 in favor of CMU.
Madison Roberts, Stangel, and Kiser each picked up two hits, while Roberts drove in two runners.
Haile Farris gave up just three hits and no runs through five complete innings of work in addition to striking four batters.
Central will play host to William Penn University for a doubleheader Monday, April 17 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Cox Softball Complex.
