Fayette, Mo. - CMU softball picked up a doubleheader sweep against William Penn University by scores of 4-0 and 2-1 Monday afternoon at Cox Softball Complex.
The Eagles improve their overall record to 26-8 and 13-3 in conference play, while William Penn falls to 13-25 and 5-11 in the Heart.
In the third inning, Central plated the first run of the game on a fly out by Madison White followed by an error by Penn's outfield to score Kelena Oots from second.
Leading 1-0, Central added three more runs in the next inning, highlighted by a two-run home run to left field from Kaysie Jolley. Oots ended the inning with a triple to center before scoring on a throwing error by the outfielder to round the bases.
Freshman Jordyn Ball tossed a complete game shut out, giving up just four hits while striking out three batters.
Game two was a pitcher's duel, as there were just three combined runs scored between both teams. Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, Central plated two runs to take the lead.
Jolley started the rally with a single to second base, followed by an RBI-double to right to score Jolley. Three batters later, Joely Crider put Central out in front on an RBI-double to left to score Hill.
Hailee Farris threw a complete game, allowing one earned run, four hits and a walk. She also struck out six batters en-route to her eighth win of 2023.
The Eagles will head back out on the road for an eight-game road swing, beginning with a trip to Peru, Nebraska to take on the Peru State Bobcats Saturday, April 22 for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
