Henderson, Tenn. - Following a delayed start due to weather in its opening game, the Central Methodist Softball team picked up two wins in the Opening Round of the Henderson Bracket Tuesday afternoon in Henderson, Tenn.
The Eagles earned a 2-1 win over St. Francis (Ill.), before run-ruling host school Freed-Hardeman in six innings in game two.
It was a pitcher's duel in the first game between the Fighting Saints and Eagles. St. Francis jumped out in front in the third inning, before Central responded with a run in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1. The tying run came via an RBI-double to left center field from Montana Stangel.
The Eagles jumped out in front in the sixth inning on another double, this time from Kaysie Jolley to plate Stangel.
Jordyn Ball had a solid showing in the circle, tossing a complete game and allowing just one run on seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. The Fayette native is now 18-3 on the year.
Madison Roberts finished the day batting a perfect three-for-three which included a double and two singles.
Central cruised in the second game of the Opening Round against Freed-Hardeman, plating nine runs on 11 hits, which included three for extra bases in the 9-1 victory.
Kelena Oots, Joely Crider, and Madison White all finished the afternoon with two hits apiece. White led the Eagle bats with both a two-RBI double and an RBI-double.
In addition, Crider tallied two RBI-singles.
Haley Cotter tossed six complete innings, giving up one earned run on five hits with two walks. She also struck out six batters to push her record to a perfect 6-0.
The Eagles will face the winner of Ottawa (Kan.)/Freed-Hardeman in the first game of the Opening Round Championship Series Wednesday, May 17 at 3:00 p.m.
Central needs to win just once to clinch a spot at the NAIA Softball World Series in Columbus, Ga.
