No. 3 Eagles Conclude Weekend with Sweep of Yellowjackets

Lamoni, Iowa - The No. 3 Central Methodist Softball team picked up two more wins over the weekend with a doubleheader sweep of Graceland University Sunday afternoon in Lamoni, Iowa.

Central defeated the Yellowjackets by scores of 16-5 and 11-2. CMU improves its overall record to 29-3 and 10-0 in the Heart of America, while Graceland falls to 18-15 and 5-7 in conference play.

The Eagles plated 16 runs on 20 hits in the first game, including five for extra bases.

Both Kelena Oots and Kaysie Jolley picked up four hits in five trips to the plate. Jolley drove in five total runners and recorded a double and a pair of home runs.

Madison Roberts matched Jolley with five RBI while also hitting a two-run blast to left field in the third. Oots finished the day with two RBI singles.

Jordyn Ball tossed six complete innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits while striking out nine. She improves her overall record to 15-0.

CMU opened game two by scoring six runs in the second inning. The top half of the frame was highlighted by five hits, including three RBI-singles and a two-RBI single from Elizabeth Palumbo

Central would score a run in the third and two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to secure a run-rule win in five innings.

The Eagles got production from all up and down their lineup, as eight different players picked up at least one hit. Jolley recorded her third home run of the day in the fourth inning. Palumbo also homered in the fourth to push CMU's lead to 9-0.

Haile Farris earned her ninth win of the year in the circle, tossing four and two thirds scoreless innings. She gave up just three hits and a walk while striking out six.

Veronica Dearth recorded the final out of the game in the bottom half of the fifth.

Central remains on the road and will next take on Missouri Baptist for a non-conference doubleheader Thursday, April 11 in St. Louis.
