Gulf Shores, Ala. — The No. 8 Central Methodist softball team split a pair of games Friday, falling to Morningside in the opener before rallying for a dramatic extra-inning win over St. Ambrose in the nightcap.
Game 1: Morningside 12 – No. 8 Central Methodist 0 (5 inn.)
Central Methodist dropped the opening game as Morningside used a big first inning to take control early and secure a 12-0 run-rule victory in five innings.
The Mustangs plated 10 runs in the opening frame and added two more in the second while collecting 12 hits in the contest.
The Eagles recorded five hits in the game, with Kaysie Jolley, Kinlei Boley, Brianna Craig, Kelsey O'Dowd, and Rachel Brandt each collecting one.
Game 2: No. 8 Central Methodist 7 - St. Ambrose 6 (8 inn.)
The Eagles responded in the second game, rallying multiple times to earn a 7-6 walk-off victory over St. Ambrose in eight innings.
St. Ambrose built an early lead before Central began chipping away. The Eagles tied the game in the seventh inning when Teri Williams delivered an RBI single.
After St. Ambrose regained the lead in the top of the eighth, CMU answered in the bottom half. Maddie Holly helped bring home the tying run before Kaysie Jolley delivered the game-winning RBI single to complete the comeback.
Williams led the Eagles offensively with three hits and two RBI, while Holly drove in three runs. Central finished with nine hits in the victory.
In the circle, Kinlei Boley earned the win in relief, tossing the final 2.2 innings and allowing just one run.
