Eagles Conclude Gulf Shores Invite with Win over Georgetown

Eagles Conclude Gulf Shores Invite with Win over Georgetown

Gulf Shores, Ala. - No. 8 Central Methodist Softball used timely hitting and a strong effort in the circle to edge Georgetown College, 3–2, on the final day of the Gulf Shores Invitational Sunday.

The game served as an additional contest for the Eagles, as their orginally scheduled games against Texas A&M Texarkana and Lindsey Wilson were canceled earlier in the day due to rain.

The Eagles improved to 11-6 on the season after rallying with two runs in the fifth inning to secure the comeback victory.

CMU struck first in the bottom of the third. Kaysie Jolley led off the frame and later scored when Emma King lined an RBI single to left field, giving the Eagles a 1–0 advantage.

Georgetown answered in the fourth, tying the game when the Tigers saw a run cross the plate on a Central throwing error. The Tigers took their first lead an inning later after a double followed by an RBI groundout, making it 2–1.

The Eagles responded immediately in the bottom of the fifth. Elizabeth Palumbo reached base and Joely Crider worked one of her two walks before Maddie Holly delivered the decisive swing, sending a single to center field that plated both runners and put CMU back in front, 3–2.

Central's pitching staff closed the door from there. Karlie Barnum earned the win in relief, moving to 4-0 after allowing one run across three innings with two strikeouts. Kinlei Boley recorded the final three outs to secure her first save of the season.

Starter Haley Cotter set the tone early, tossing three innings while allowing one unearned run.

Georgetown outhit the Eagles 8–4. Holly led CMU with two RBI, while King added the Eagles' other run driven in.

Jolley also added two stolen bases and scored a run for the Eagles.

The Eagles return to Missouri to take on Stephens College Thursday, March 12 for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. in Columbia.
