Fayette, Mo. — After capturing its fourth Heart conference tournament title in the last five years, CMU softball placed three players on the all-tournament team, which was announced by the conference office earlier this week.
Haley Cotter, Maddie Holly, and Madison Roberts each earned recognition, with Roberts also being named the tournament MVP.
Cotter played a key role on Central's pitching staff, appearing in three games, including one start. She compiled a 3-0 record, highlighted by a complete-game shutout against No. 3-seeded Grand View on Friday.
She also worked out of a bases-loaded jam against No. 1-seeded Missouri Baptist in the bottom of the second inning on Saturday and allowed just one hit over the final three and two-thirds innings to send Central to the championship game.
Holly started all four games for the Eagles, batting .462 with a 1.000 slugging percentage. She recorded six hits — including three doubles and two triples — and drove in seven RBI. In the tournament opener, she delivered the game-tying and go-ahead runs in CMU's 6-5 walk-off victory over Mount Mercy.
Her best performance came against the Spartans on Saturday, when the sophomore went two-for-three with a double, a triple, and three RBI.
Roberts led Central's offense with a .545 batting average and a 1.000 slugging percentage. She totaled six hits, including two doubles and a home run, while also drawing three walks. Against Missouri Baptist on Saturday, the Elkhart, Illinois native went a perfect three-for-three — recording a single, a double, and a three-run home run. She finished the day with five total RBI.
