Sioux City, Iowa - Behind a hat trick from junior forward Mariana Barreto, the Central Methodist Women's Soccer team completed their non-conference slate with a 4-1 road win against Briar Cliff Wednesday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa.
Central now stands at 2-1-1, while the Chargers fall to 1-3.
The Eagles opened the scoring quickly, as Luisa Schaupp netted the first goal of the match just 37 seconds into play.
Soon after, Barreto would score goals in the sixth and 13th minute of action to give CMU a commanding 3-0 lead.
Briar Cliff cut into the deficit with a goal just before halftime to cut Central's lead to 3-1.
CMU outshot Briar Cliff in the second half at a staggering 15-1 clip, mirrong their 11-2 shooting advantage in the first 45.
The Eagles' fourth and final goal came from Barreto in the 86th minute.
Overall, Central outshot the Chargers, 26-3 and had 10 corner kicks compared to three for BCU.
Barreto led the offense with her first hat trick of the year and the fifth of her career. She also picked up an assist and fired off nine shots, including five on goal.
Nerea Munoz and Sara Garcia both picked up assists in the match and each recorded four shots.
Amber Bennett earned her second win of the year in goal, playing all 90 minutes and tallying two saves.
Central returns home to begin Heart of America play against William Woods University Saturday, Sept. 6 at 5:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
