Dubuque, Iowa - Behind a hat trick from Mariana Barreto, the No. 18 Central Methodist Women's Soccer program cruised past Clarke University, 4-0, Saturday afternoon in Dubuque, Iowa.
Central now improves to 6-1-2 and 4-0-1 in the Heart of America. Clarke drops to 2-5-2 and 1-3-1 in conference action.
The opening goal from Barreto came just before halftime, with the assist coming from Rieke Protze. Central held a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.
She continued to showcase her dominance in the second half, scoring in the 58th minute courtesy of an assist from Grace Elder. Less than a minute later, Barreto completed the hat trick with an unassisted goal.
Leading 3-0, Laura Andres put the finishing touches on the game with her second goal the season in the 84th minute.
CMU outshot the Pride 14-8 in total shots and 8-4 in shots on goal.
En route to her hat trick, Barreto recorded six shots, with four coming on frame.
The duo of Andres and Luisa Schaupp each recorded two shots.
Amber Bennett made three saves in the first 83 minutes of action. Brooke Assur came in for the final seven minutes to secure the shutout.
CMU returns home to host Missouri Baptist University Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 5:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
