Fayette, Mo. - The No. 18 Central Methodist Women's Soccer program picked up another victory with a 5-0 shutout of Heart newcomer Missouri Baptist Wednesday night at Davis Field.
CMU now stands at 7-1-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the Heart of America. Missouri Baptist drops to 3-6-1 and 3-2 in conference action.
The Eagles' first goal of the match came in the 25th minute. The sequence began on a free kick from Nerea Munoz following a foul.
The ball hit off the cross bar and landed in front of the goal. Lauren Berger struck the ball with her right foot through a sea of defenders and found the back of the net for the score, giving CMU a 1-0 lead.
Central would hold a one goal lead at the halftime break.
CMU's offense came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, as the Eagles scored four goals in just an 11-minute span.
Reigning Heart Player of the Week Mariana Barreto connected on back-to-back goals in the 53rd and 56th minute of play, with assists coming from Jenna Brouwer and Munoz.
Luisa Schaupp scored less than a minute later on a put back goal to put Central up 4-0.
Luana Jarolin put the finishing touches on the match, heading a ball into the back of the net on a cross from Pascalle Rodriguez in the 64th minute.
As a team, Central outshot the Spartans in total shots, 24-3, and shots on goal, 12-1.
Amber Bennett played 69 minutes in between the posts, making one save. Brooke Assur played the 21 minutes to preserve the shut out.
The Eagles head out on the road for a quick trip to Canton, Missouri to take on Culver-Stockton College Saturday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
