No. 1 CMU Opens Heart Tourney with Shut Out of No. 8 Mustangs

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 1-seeded Central Methodist Women's Soccer team began postseason action with a Heart of America Quarterfinal matchup against No. 8-seeded Mount Mercy on Wednesday evening at Davis Field.

CMU shut out the Mustangs for a 3-0 win, moving on to the conference semifinals for the ninth consecutive year.

Luisa Schaupp got the Eagles on the board quickly with her eighth goal of the year in just the sixth minute of play. Central would take a 1-0 lead into the locker room at the halftime break after outshooting the Mustangs 11-3 in the first 45 minutes.

Sara Garcia opened the second half scoring in the 51st minute, before Schaupp put the finishing touches on the match in the 62nd minute.

Suzu Narusawa, Maja Henriksen, and Mariana Barreto all dished out assists in the win.

Schaupp recorded her eighth and ninth goals of the year and her second brace during the match. She finished the evening with six shots taken, including three on goal.

Barreto tallied seven total shots, with one coming on goal, while both Pascalle Rodriguez and Garcia each recorded four shots.

Brooke Assur earned her second win of the year in goal, making three saves in a full 90 minutes of action.

The Eagles will play host to No. 4-seeded Benedictine College in the Heart Semifinals Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Davis Field.

Central knocked Benedictine out of last year's tournament with a 4-1 win in the semifinals in Atchison.
