Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist women's soccer team's season ended in heartbreak as they fell 1–0 to Taylor University on the road in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament Saturday night in Upland, Indiana.
Despite a strong push, the Eagles couldn't find the back of the net, and Taylor's pressure paid off via an own goal in the 56th minute.
From a statistical perspective, the match was tightly contested. CMU had 14 shots, with six on goal, while Taylor put up 12 shots, four of which were on target.
Central's goalkeeper, Amber Bennett, made three saves, while Taylor's Brianna Rawlings recorded six saves, helping preserve the shutout for the Trojans.
Offensively, for the Eagles, Jenna Brouwer and Mariana Barreto were most active: Brouwer tallied four shots (two on goal), while Barreto also launched four shots, three of which tested Taylor's defense. Sara Garcia added one shot on goal, and Luisa Schaupp chipped in two attempts.
Defensively, CMU committed eight fouls over the game, and the team recorded four corner kicks.
However, Taylor was more aggressive in set pieces with nine corners total. Taylor, meanwhile, kept the pressure high, and their physical defensive play showed, committingg 14 fouls during the match.
Central sees its season come to a close with a final record of 16-3-2.
