New Orleans, La. - The Central Methodist Outdoor Track and Field programs are both ranked No. 21 in this week's edition of the NAIA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Rating Index.
On the women's side, British Columbia leads the pack with 613.76 points, followed by William Carey (Miss.) with 321.14 points, and Concordia (Neb.) with 282.16 points. Marian (Ind.) and Southern Oregon round out the top five.
The CMU women, who are No. 1 in the USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings, are the lone representative from the Heart of America Athletic Conference in the national Top 25. In addition, Central is ranked nationally in six different individual events including; the 100m hurdles (No. 2), 400m hurdles (No. 3), Triple Jump (No. 3), High Jump, (No. 4), Long Jump (No. 4), and Pole Vault (No. 6).
On the men's side, British Columbia is also ranked No. 1 nationally with 419.16 points. Southeastern (Fla.) is second with 400.82 points followed by The Master's (Calif.) with 277.35 points. Indiana Tech (215.70) and Keiser (204.60) round out the top five. The Eagle men are ranked No. 4 in the South Central Regiona and are joined in the national rankings with No. 25 Grand View.
Central features four individual events that are ranked nationally including No. 2 in discus, No. 5 shot put, No. 7 in the hammer throw, and No. 9 in the javelin.
So far this season, CMU has qualified eight athletes in nine different events including for the national meet including; Kailey Johnson (100m hurdles), Megan Aubuchon (100m hurdles), Keiara-Ashley Cunningham (400m hurdles), Kaitlyn Weber (Long Jump), Brennan Moots (110m hurdles), Alex Ayala (400m hurdles), Ethan Smith (Decathlon), and Taylor Bottomley (Shot put, Discus, Hammer). The 4x400m relay team of Dayana Montenegro, Cunningham, Jessica Bailey, and Johnson have also qualified for the national championships.
The Eagles will continue their spring season at the Lincoln Open Saturday, April 9 in Jefferson City, Mo.
