Pittsburg, Kan. - The Central Methodist Indoor Track and Field program had an outstanding showing at the Crimson & Gold Invitational this weekend in Pittsburg, Kan.
Altogether, four Eagles broke school records in their respective events and seven Eagles hit the qualifying standard for the the NAIA National Championships.
Ethan Smith got the weekend started in the heptathlon, racking up 4,499 points in the two day event. In addition, the sophomore from Kansas City hit the national qualifying standard.
On the women's side, junior sprinter Tre'breh Scott opened the season with a new school record in the 60m hurdles at 8.66 seconds, also good enough to hit the 'A' qualifying standard. Fellow junior Dayana Montenegro broke the school record in the 600 yard run at 1:23.95, good enough for a second-place standing. Kjirsten Guilford finished third behind Montenegro in the event with a time of 1:26.08.
The trio joined Sakoya Johnson in the 4x400m relay, setting a new school record in 3:52.53 and improving upon their national qualifying standard. Overall, the quartet posted a second-place finish in the event.
Gizel Clayton hit the 'B' standard in the 60m dash in a time of 7.74 seconds.
In the field events, freshman Baylee Beard placed second in the shot put, setting the school record at 13.75 meters which was also good enough to hit the 'A' standard for national qualifying.
Central will open up the New Year at the Friends University Invite Saturday, Jan. 7 in Wichita, Kan.
