Brookings, S.D. - The Central Methodist Women's Indoor Track & Field program had a stellar showing at the 2023 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship this weekend in Brookings, S.D.
The three-day event was hosted by South Dakota State University, and featured hundreds of competitors from more than 50 schools from across the country.
Central posted an eigth place finish out of 55 teams, and garnered nine NAIA All-Americans in total, the most in a single championship in school history.
The 4x400m relay team of Tre'breh Scott, Dayana Montenegro Kjirsten Guilford, and Sakoya Johnson got the championships started in the preliminaries Thursday. The team overcame a dropped baton in the early stages of the race, breaking the school record and qualifying for the finals Saturday in a time of 3:51.19.
The group would ultimately place seventh in the finals, breaking their own school record in 3:49.10 and earning All-America status.
In addition, Scott posted a 26th place finish in the 200m run in a time of 25.52 seconds.
The 4x800 team of Madeline Wieseman, Yanira Paninka, Keiara-Ashley Cunningham, and Natalie Garr ran a preliminary time of 9:59.94.
Central continued its strong start with a pair of top eight finishes from Yanira Paninka and Baileigh Morris in the 3000m Racewalk. Paninka earned a bronze medal with a third place finish in 15:34.95 and Morris placed sixth in a time of 16:32.33.
Gizel Clayton punched her ticket to the finals of the 60m hurdles and would ultimately finish fourth in Saturday's finals in a time of 8.48, earning All-America status. She also ran a preliminary time of 7.72 seconds in the 60m dash.
Dayana Montenegro was the National Runner Up in the 600m run, finishing the event in a time of 1:32.58.
The duo of Baylee Beard and Karli Wolfe each competed in the weight throw, finishing 15th and 21st respectively. In addition, Beard landed inside the Top 20 of the shot put at No. 19, throwing a final mark of 13.00 meters flat.
Newcomer Delaney Miller earned an eighth place finish in the high jump with a final mark of 1.64m, becoming an All-American for the first time in her CMU career.
