Kansas City, Mo. - The Central Methodist Women's Track & Field duo of Gizel Clayton and Baylee Beard were named the Heart Track & Field Athletes of the Week by the conference office Monday.
It marks the second award for both ladies this year, as they were each recognized during indoor season.
Clayton, a sophomore sprinter from Jamaica, broke the school record in the 100m dash in 11.89 seconds at the CMU Invite this past week. In addition, she hit the NAIA National Qualifying 'A' standard in the event.
Clayton followed that up with a first-place finish in the 200m dash in a time of 24.90 seconds. For her efforts, she was tabbed as the Heart Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
At the same meet, Beard broke the school record in both the shot put and hammer throw.
The freshman won the shot with a toss of 13.40m, which hit the NAIA 'B' Standard to qualify for Outdoor National Championships. The Centralia, Mo., native followed that up with a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.20m, hitting the National 'A' Standard for qualification. She was named this week's Heart Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
The Eagles will next travel to Jefferson City, Mo. to compete in the Lincoln Open Saturday, April 8.
