Marion, Ind. - The Central Methodist Track and Field program boasted several notable performances at the 2023 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships this week in Marion, Ind.
The CMU women earned a 14th place standing as a team, of which the group produced four All-Americans.
Freshman Baylee Beard placed sixth in the hammer with a throw of 54.46m on day one. The mark was good enough to break the school record and set a new personal best for the native of Centralia, Mo. In addition, Beard finished seventh in the shot put with a school record throw of 14.06 meters. She would All-America status in both events.
Freshman sprinter Gizel Clayton cruised to a first-place finish in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles. In the finals, Clayton ran the event in a program record of 13.38 seconds, finishing as the NAIA National Runner Up and earning All-America status. Clayton also competed in the 100m dash where she finished 26th in 13.02 seconds.
Sophomore Renee Finke competed in the high jump for the Eagles, clearing a height of 1.68 meters to place fifth and earn All-America honors.
Tre'breh Scott joined Clayton in the 100m hurdles, running the prelims in a time of 14.01 seconds. She qualified for the finals but did not finish the race. In addition, the native of Suffolk, Va. ran a time of 24.62 seconds in the 200m dash to place 18th.
In the 5,000m race walk, Baileigh Morris place ninth with a time of 28:15.56.
The duo of Yanira Paninka and Kailey Johnson both ran the preliminaries of the 400m hurdles. Paninka finished 15th in a time of 1:05.22 while Johnson ran the event in 1:06.07 to place 18th.
Dayana Montenegro posted a 15th place standing in the 400m dash in 57.77 seconds. The 4x400m relay team of Scott, Sakoya Johnson, Kjirsten Guilford, and Montengro finished 11th, running a time of 3:52.15.
The CMU men also qualified a 4x400m relay team which included Mohammed Nyaoga, Doriye Jackson, Jack Schiffhauer, and Adrian Watson. The team ran a prelim time of 3:17.05 to finish ninth. Sophomore Colder Evans competed in the discus, but did not place.
