McPherson, Kan. - The (RV) Central Methodist Volleyball program picked up two wins on the final day of the McPherson Invitational Saturday in McPherson, Kansas.
Central took care of business against Doane University in four sets by scores of 25-23, 26-28, 25-16, and 25-14. The Eagles then came back from two sets down to defeat (RV) Bethel in five by scores of 26-28, 23-25, 25-14, 25-23, and 15-7.
Against the Tigers in the morning matchup, Central had two Eagles reach double digit kills including Martina Gonzato and Joana Milho with 12 each. Milho also picked up 11 digs to tally a double double.
Gonzato, Kyndra Collier and Hailey Dreier led the defense with three blocks each.
Lauryn Farish matched the best offensive performance of her CMU career with nine kills on 22 swings for a .318 hitting percentage. Luciana Araujo was the most efficent hitter for the Eagles, hitting .357 with seven kills on 14 swings and only two errors.
Dreier matched Araugo with seven kills while also chipping in three digs and an assist.
Jazmine Srun led the setters, dishing out 25 assists. She also collected 10 digs to earn herself a double double. Mariah Bostic-Jones followed with 17 assists while also recording six digs and two service aces.
Vitoria Martins recorded a team-leading 22 digs as the libero.
Central concluded the invitational with a come-from-behind win over (RV) Bethel. In an almost identical format to last year, where the Eagles had to come back from two sets down at home against the Threshers on Sept. 7, 2024, Central reverse swept BC in their final match.
Dreier had the best game of her CMU career, tallying a team-leading 15 kills on 20 swings for a .650 hitting percentage. She also finished with three blocks.
Gonzato followed with 12 kills, three digs, and two blocks, while Milho added 11 kills, 14 digs, two assists, and a block.
Gimena Dezeo rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 kills on 17 swings.
Bostic-Jones finished the day match with 26 assists and a service ace while Srun added 23 assists to her stat line.
Martins collected 16 digs, and the trio of Araujo, Lauryn Farish, and Srun each recorded six.
The Eagles concluded the McPherson Invitational with a 3-1 record and are now 6-2 overall.
CMU will next complete in the Columbia College Triangular on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Central will play Ottawa University at 4:00 p.m. followed by Columbia College at 6:30 p.m.
